St Clement University Photos and Information
To start off, one of the interesting places we visited were the ruins of where used to be the Ohrid literary school. Or the St Clement University; this is probably the first Slavic university of Europe.
Nonetheless, ithout the tourist guide we would have never understood the importance of what we saw here. He told us that the disciples of Cyril; as well as Methodius; formed two literary schools on the Balkans – one in Preslav, the capital of the first Bulgarian empire. Along with a second one in Ohrid, Europe.
St Clement University is the place
However, this is where the first complete translations of the holy books were made. They were also copied so that they can be redistributed later throughout the entire Slavic world. Therefore, I was amazed by the fact that St Clement managed to teach over 3500 students to read as well as write in the Glagolitic alphabet for a period of only 7 years.
